Figure Analogies Test
25 original figure-based practice questions with answers and explanations — built for ISSB screening and Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial test preparation.
What Is a Figure Analogies Test?
In a figure analogies test, the first figure changes into the second figure by one clear rule — it may fill with colour, turn, grow, shrink, gain an element or lose one. Your job is to spot that change and apply exactly the same change to the third figure, then choose the matching option. Read every question as a sentence: “Figure 1 is to Figure 2 as Figure 3 is to…?” This figure analogies test copies the style used in ISSB screening and in the Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial tests, where analogy questions test whether you can learn a rule from a single example and reuse it at speed.
In the real initial test, PMA Long Course candidates and other applicants get only seconds per question, so the winning habit is to name the change in plain words before looking at the options: “outline becomes filled”, “turns 90 degrees clockwise”, “a dot is added”. Once the rule is spoken, the correct option usually stands out at once, and the three wrong options — which apply a different change, or only half of it — can be ignored. Work through all 25 questions below, then check the answer key to see each rule explained.

Answer Key
| Q | Answer | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | B | The outline shape becomes fully filled, so the circle fills too. |
| 2 | B | The arrow turns 90 degrees clockwise, so the down arrow points left. |
| 3 | A | One gold dot is added in the centre, so the square gains a central dot. |
| 4 | C | The shape grows much larger, so the small square becomes the large square. |
| 5 | C | A smaller outline copy appears inside, so the triangle gains an inner triangle outline. |
| 6 | B | The shaded half moves from left to right, so the circle shades its right half. |
| 7 | A | The figure turns 180 degrees, so the up arrow points down. |
| 8 | B | The inner element is removed, so the triangle loses its dot. |
| 9 | C | The element doubles, so one triangle becomes two triangles. |
| 10 | B | Navy changes to gold, so the square turns gold. |
| 11 | D | The arrow turns 90 degrees anticlockwise, so the down arrow points right. |
| 12 | B | The shape shrinks, so the large circle becomes the small circle. |
| 13 | C | A filled shape becomes an outline, so the hexagon becomes an outline. |
| 14 | A | A vertical gold line is added through the centre, so the square gains one. |
| 15 | B | The shading flips from top to bottom, so the square shades its bottom half. |
| 16 | B | The shape gains one side, so the pentagon (5 sides) becomes a hexagon (6). |
| 17 | C | The shape loses one side, so the square (4 sides) becomes a triangle (3). |
| 18 | C | The dot moves to the opposite position, so the top dot moves to the bottom. |
| 19 | B | The two elements swap sides, so the dot goes left and the triangle right. |
| 20 | A | A small gold circle is added at the top-right corner, so the triangle gains one there. |
| 21 | C | The arrow turns 45 degrees clockwise, so the right arrow points south-east. |
| 22 | A | Navy changes to gold, so the diamond turns gold. |
| 23 | C | The filled shape becomes half shaded on the right, so the circle half-shades right. |
| 24 | C | The smaller added element is removed, so the triangle stands alone. |
| 25 | A | The arrow turns 90 degrees clockwise and fills in, so the down outline arrow becomes a filled left arrow. |
