Figure Rotation Test
25 original figure-based practice questions with answers and explanations — built for ISSB screening and Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial test preparation.
What Is a Figure Rotation Test?
In a figure rotation test, a shape is turned around its centre by a set angle — 45, 90, 180 or 270 degrees — clockwise or anticlockwise. Nothing else about the figure changes: the size, shading and details stay exactly the same, and only its direction alters. Your task is either to follow a turning sequence and choose the figure that comes next, or to pick the option that shows the starting figure after a stated turn. This figure rotation test copies the style used in ISSB screening and in the Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial tests, where rotation questions measure how quickly you can picture movement in your mind — a skill that matters for map reading, navigation and the technical trades of the armed forces.
In the real initial test, candidates get only seconds per question, so a reliable method matters more than guesswork. Fix on one feature of the figure — an arrowhead, a dot or a shaded corner — and track where that single feature travels as the shape turns. A quarter turn clockwise carries a top feature to the right, and a half turn carries it to the bottom. Learn that one habit and most rotation questions solve themselves. Work through all 25 questions below, then check the answer key to see every turn explained.
25 Practice Questions
Questions 1 to 13 show a turning sequence: choose the figure that comes next. Questions 14 to 25 give one figure and a stated turn: choose the option that shows the figure after that turn. The full answer key follows the questions.

Answer Key
| Q | Answer | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | B | The arrow turns 90 degrees clockwise each step — up, right, down — so next it points left. |
| 2 | C | The flag turns 90 degrees clockwise at each step, so the fourth figure shows it after a 270-degree turn in total. |
| 3 | D | The L turns 45 degrees clockwise each step — 0, 45, 90 — so next it sits at 135 degrees. |
| 4 | A | The triangle turns 90 degrees anticlockwise each step — apex at the top, left, then bottom — so next the apex points right. |
| 5 | B | The wedge turns 90 degrees clockwise each step — north-east, south-east, south-west — so next it fills the north-west quarter. |
| 6 | D | The T flips 180 degrees each step, alternating upright and upside down, so the fourth figure is upside down like the second. |
| 7 | B | The chevron turns 45 degrees anticlockwise each step — right, north-east, up — so next it points north-west. |
| 8 | C | The shaded half turns 90 degrees clockwise each step — right, bottom, left — so next it sits at the top. |
| 9 | A | The house turns 90 degrees clockwise each step, so in the fourth figure the roof points left. |
| 10 | D | The dot moves 90 degrees clockwise around the pentagon each step — top, right, bottom — so next it is on the left. |
| 11 | C | The filled corner moves 90 degrees clockwise each step — top-left, top-right, bottom-right — so next is bottom-left. |
| 12 | D | The arrow turns 45 degrees clockwise each step — up, north-east, right — so next it points south-east. |
| 13 | C | The kite flips 180 degrees each step, so the dot alternates between top-right and bottom-left; the fourth figure matches the second. |
| 14 | A | A 90-degree clockwise turn moves the arrowhead from pointing up to pointing right. |
| 15 | B | A half turn puts the pole on the right with the pennant at the bottom pointing left; option A is a mirror flip, not a turn. |
| 16 | D | Anticlockwise 90 degrees lays the long bar of the L along the top, with its foot pointing down at the left end. |
| 17 | B | Clockwise 90 degrees turns the apex from the top to the right, and the dot travels with the apex. |
| 18 | D | 270 degrees clockwise is three quarter turns — right, down, left, up — so the chevron ends pointing up. |
| 19 | B | A half turn moves the wedge from the north-east quarter to the opposite south-west quarter. |
| 20 | C | Clockwise 90 degrees stands the T on its side, with the crossbar vertical on the right and the stem pointing left. |
| 21 | D | 270 degrees clockwise turns the roof from the top, through right and bottom, so it ends pointing left. |
| 22 | B | Anticlockwise 90 degrees moves the filled corner from the top-left down to the bottom-left. |
| 23 | C | From pointing right, one 45-degree clockwise turn aims the arrow along the south-east diagonal. |
| 24 | B | Anticlockwise 90 degrees carries the shaded half from the right up to the top. |
| 25 | A | Clockwise 90 degrees lays the pole flat along the top, with the pennant hanging down at the right-hand end. |
