Water Images Test

25 original figure-based practice questions with answers and explanations — built for ISSB screening and Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial test preparation.

What Is a Water Images Test?

In a water images test, you are shown a figure and must choose how it would look reflected in water below it. The rule is simple but strict: top and bottom swap places, while left and right stay exactly where they are. A dot near the top of the figure appears near the bottom in its water image, on the same side as before, and anything pointing upwards points downwards instead. This water images test copies the style used in ISSB screening and in the Pakistan Army, PAF and Pak Navy initial tests, where water image questions check careful observation under time pressure, a habit that matters when reading maps, signs and instruments in service.

In the real Army initial test and in ISSB screening, non-verbal questions come in long sets against the clock, often with less than a minute for each figure. Candidates for PMA Long Course, PAF airman and aerotrade courses, and Pak Navy sailor and officer entries all meet water image questions. The wrong options are built from the same figure — turned left-to-right, rotated, or left unchanged — so careless candidates fall for them. Work through all 25 questions below, then check the answer key to see each water image explained.

Tip 1: Remember the one rule: top and bottom swap, left and right never change.
Tip 2: Pick the figure’s most obvious top or bottom feature — a dot, a flag, a notch — and check where it sits in each option.
Tip 3: Reject any option flipped left-to-right (a mirror image) or simply rotated; neither is a water image.
Tip 4: Mentally fold the picture downwards over a horizontal line beneath the figure.
